- Lumbar Spine Applying MDT (Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy/McKenzie Method) to the lower back (with or without radiating pain) starts with posture and moves into trying to identify changes from your normal range of motion along with deciphering pain producing movements. Determining if the pain is mechanical in origin is the goal of this assessment.
